April Tips

• Lightly fork over the soil and pull up any weeds before they set seed

• Look out for self-sowers and relocate seedlings if necessary

• Prune herbs such as rosemary, thyme and sage

• As soon as the soil is up to 6 C, sow hardy veg such as broad beans, beetroot and early salad

• Keep bird feeders clean and topped up with food

• Thin out any annuals sown last autumn to encourage bigger plants

• Feed hungry shrubs and roses and sew new lawns and repair bare patches
