| | | | | | | |  | | SEPTEMBER - If you haven't already done so make sure your berries are netted to prevent your crops being harvested by squirrels and birds
- To prevent your potted plants from slugs and snails in the summer months, use perforated copper strips around the pot
- Start to clear away summer bedding and start planting your spring bulbs
- Add some interest to your garden by planting ornamental grasses
- Clear up fallen leaves and dead material to avoid diseases developing over the winter
- September is the ideal time to sow grass seed over patchy or bare lawn
| | | | | | | | |  | | OCTOBER - Prune climbing and rambling roses and attach any new growth to supporting trellis
- Sweep up leaves before they block up drains and damage lawns
- Get a compost bin for all the old plant material available in the autumn
- Pot up some mint for the greenhouse or frame for early shoots in the spring
- Lift dahlias, gladioli and other half hardy tubers, corms and bulbs for the winter

- Clean, scrub down and disinfect the greenhouse
- Plant tulip bulbs before the end of the month
- Insulate the greenhouse and check that heating equipment is working
- Complete lawn mowing and clean and oil mower before storage
- Mound peat or finely chopped bark around the crowns of hardy fuchsias and other plants that could suffer in a hard frost
